Read guideWhat Is CrowdGen?
CrowdGen by Appen is the contributor platform of Appen Limited, a publicly traded (ASX: APX) AI-data company founded in 1996 in Sydney, Australia. CrowdGen is where individual contributors register, get matched to projects, complete tasks, and get paid — with the platform stating it operates in over 200 countries.
The Appen Connect Rebrand
CrowdGen is a rebrand of the previous Appen Connect platform — if you had an Appen Connect account, you sign in to CrowdGen with the same email and password. We cover this fully in our [dedicated article](/articles/is-crowdgen-same-as-appen-connect).
Real Projects We Verified
We opened two specific, real listings on CrowdGen's remote-work page: Project Touchet (remote, US-based video evaluation, $300 flat) and Project Warhol (on-site, Pittsburgh PA, $50/hour). We cover each in a dedicated guide, linked below.
Eligibility
Varies significantly by project — CrowdGen's own copy emphasizes profile completeness (age, gender, location, languages, skills) as the main matching mechanism rather than one universal bar. Most long-term projects require passing a project-specific qualification test.
How to Apply
New applicants apply to a specific project opening via jobs.lever.co/appen; CrowdGen then creates a contributor account. Existing Appen Connect users sign in directly at crowdgen.com.
Pay
Pay varies entirely by project — real examples we found ranged from a $300 flat fee to $50/hour. CrowdGen paid contributors 'over $157 million' in 2022, per its own stated figure.
Final Thoughts
CrowdGen is a real, verifiable platform backed by an established public company — go in knowing it mixes genuinely remote work with in-person, location-specific studies under one page.
