DataForce is TransPerfect's AI data-services brand — a community platform where you sign up once and then pick from individual, short-term photo/audio/video collection studies and data-annotation projects, each with its own device requirements and its own pay rate. There's no single company-wide pay figure, and studies open and close on a rolling basis — two of the three real listings we checked in this research pass had already closed by the time we opened them.

Who is DataForce, really?

DataForce isn't a separate company — it's TransPerfect's own AI/data-services product. TransPerfect itself was founded in 1992 and, per its own official history, started as "a two-person company operating out of a dorm room." It's grown into a global language-and-technology-services company with 160+ offices and 10,000+ clients, headquartered in New York (TransPerfect's own site explicitly labels 1250 Broadway, New York, NY 10001 as its "New York Global HQ"). DataForce's own community describes a contributor network of "over 1 million data contributors, scientists, and engineers" (and elsewhere "over 1.3 million people worldwide") who take on data-collection, annotation, and testing work for AI/ML training.

What kind of work is actually there?

DataForce organizes its work into four categories, per its own community platform:

1. Data Sourcing / Media Collection — short, self-directed studies where you submit photos, record audio, or capture video following a specific project's instructions. This is the category we found the most concrete, currently-open detail on.

2. Data Annotation — image annotation (bounding boxes, segmentation, classification), video annotation (object detection, tracking, LIDAR), text/NLP annotation (named-entity annotation, morphosyntactic annotation), and audio annotation (transcription, segmentation). DataForce describes quality control here via what it calls "Gold Standard Baseline Testing" and multi-reviewer workflows. We could not find a specific open listing with a stated pay rate for this category in this research pass — treat requirements and pay as Unknown until a specific listing is verified.

3. User Studies — testing products and giving customer-experience feedback, per DataForce's own description. No specific listing detail found in this pass.

4. Direct roles — DataForce also lists "Full-Time Positions," "Part-Time Roles," and standalone Job Opportunities, both remote and on-site, separate from the project-based freelance work above.

Quick take (for the Ronia Raw Photo Collection project, our only confirmed-open example)

• Best suited for: Students, Housewives, Career Switchers — no exam, self-paced, no minimum hours.
• Who should avoid it: anyone without an iPhone 15/16/17 Pro or a full-frame/APS-C mirrorless/DSLR camera — there's no lower-hardware path in.
• English/computer skill needed: none beyond registering an account and uploading a photo.
• Difficulty (TTA Academy's own assessment, not DataForce's): Beginner.

A real, currently-open example (as of 31 July 2026)

Ronia Raw Photo Collection - United States — submit RAW-format photos (existing or newly captured) across various subjects and lighting conditions, to support AI/computer-vision development. Photos must be original and personally taken — no AI-generated or downloaded content. Requires an iPhone 15/16/17 Pro (iOS 14.3+) specifically, or a full-frame/APS-C mirrorless/DSLR camera — an older iPhone or an Android phone doesn't qualify for this particular project. No formal exam; submissions go through Quality Assurance review. Pays $1.50 USD per accepted photo, plus a $15 referral bonus for referred participants who submit 50+ accepted photos. Two real examples that had already closed (kept here for a realistic picture of the category, not as live opportunities)

• Waratah — Remote Audio Collection (US): recorded natural group conversations remotely, ~4 participants + 1 moderator, quiet echo-free room required, a 5-minute sample recording used as a mini qualification test. Paid $85 USD flat for the ~2-hour session. Status at research time: closed.
• Project Asteroid — Remote Photo Collection, Membership Cards & Event Tickets (India): photograph event tickets/membership cards with a visible barcode, English-language content only. Paid $2 USD per accepted asset, up to $60 total. Status at research time: closed. This is the clearest India-specific example we found — worth knowing the category exists even though this exact listing has closed.

Do I need to pass an exam?

Not a universal one. DataForce doesn't run one company-wide qualification exam the way TELUS Digital or OneForma do. Instead, individual projects sometimes include their own short sample/qualification step — the Waratah audio study, for example, required a 5-minute sample recording just to confirm your room was echo-free. Every submission, regardless of project, goes through DataForce's Quality Assurance review before it's accepted and paid.

Is this a job or freelance work?

Mostly freelance/independent-contributor, project by project — you complete a W-9 (US) or W-8 (non-US) tax form and pick a payment method before you get paid, which is the standard shape of contractor engagement, not employment. DataForce/TransPerfect separately lists genuine full-time and part-time positions too, but those are a different, more traditional hiring track than the project-based work covered here.

How and when do you get paid?

Payment methods: wire transfer, PayPal, check, Tremendous gift card, or Western Union, depending on your location. For remote projects, DataForce pays after Quality Check review — the FAQ says this takes 2–6 weeks depending on the specific project's own email communication. For on-site studies, payment terms begin immediately after you complete the session. Actual transfer speed then varies further by method — we saw stated ranges from 7 up to 30 business days across different listings.

Who is this actually good for?

• People who own specific, sometimes high-end hardware (a recent-model iPhone Pro, a mirrorless/DSLR camera) and want to turn that into occasional per-unit income — the RAW photo collection category rewards equipment access as much as skill.
• People comfortable with rolling, rotating opportunities rather than an ongoing job — DataForce's studies open and close on their own schedule; two of the three real listings we checked had already closed by the time we looked.
• India-based contributors specifically — real India-eligible listings exist (a remote photo-collection study and an on-site Hyderabad voice-recording study were both confirmed in this research), though which projects are open to India changes over time.

What we couldn't verify (and won't guess)

• Specific pay or requirements for the Data Annotation family (image/video/text/audio annotation) — DataForce describes the category, but we found no individually-opened listing with a stated rate.
• Whether a "Remote Scheduler - India" role we saw referenced (via a third-party job board, not an official DataForce page) is a currently real, open position — flagged for a follow-up official-source check, not treated as verified here.
• DataForce's own specific founding/launch date as a distinct brand (separate from parent company TransPerfect's 1992 founding).
• Full requirements for the "User Studies" category — described but not individually opened in this pass.
