India Address Accuracy Guidelines for Map Evaluation

A field-by-field method for evaluating Indian addresses, including units, streets, sub-localities, localities, states and PIN codes.

India address accuracy guide for map evaluation

Indian addresses can be complex because the same place may be described through neighbourhoods, sectors, villages, wards or locally accepted spellings. This guide is prepared by the TTA Academy Editorial & Training Team, with expertise in map evaluation, local address structures and evidence-based verification.

Understand the hierarchy

Review the address in a consistent sequence: unit, street number, street name, sub-locality 2, sub-locality 1, locality, state and PIN code. A result can contain a correct locality but an incorrect street number, so do not rate the complete address as one indivisible statement.

Choose reliable evidence

Prefer official business pages, government or postal records, trustworthy institutional pages, visible signage and consistent map evidence. Directories can provide leads but may copy outdated data. When sources conflict, compare recency, authority and whether they refer to the same branch.

Handle variants and missing fields

Common abbreviations, transliterations and locally accepted spellings may represent the same address. A missing optional field is not automatically wrong. Conversely, a precise-looking PIN code is not reliable merely because the rest of the address appears plausible.

A repeatable workflow

Confirm the entity and branch first. Break the address into fields. Research authoritative sources. Resolve spelling or hierarchy differences. Then apply the project’s accuracy labels to each requested component and perform a final consistency check.
